Wexler Wallace Investigates Energy Star Labeling on LG and Sears Refrigerator-Freezers

Wexler Wallace LLP is investigating potential claims regarding LG and Sears/Kenmore refrigerator-freezer models that display the Energy Star label but fail to meet Energy Star standards.  In January 2010, the Department of Energy (DOE) banned certain LG French-door refrigerator-freezers from using the Energy Star Label after tests performed by multiple laboratories confirmed that the refrigerator-freezers did not qualify for the Energy Star Program.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsor the Energy Star Program to promote the development and sale of energy efficient products.  The Energy Star label also allows consumers to identify products that will save energy as well as energy costs.  After determining that certain LG refrigerator-freezer models were consuming significantly more energy than allowed under the Energy Star Program, the DOE and EPA removed the label from these products and prohibited LG from using the Energy Star label on approximately 40,000 refrigerator-freezers.  The refrigerator-freezer models at issue include those listed in the chart below.
